Our Mission

As stewards of 3463, KVRHC’s mission is to:

  1. Preserve, protect, and cosmetically restore AT&SF 3463, honoring its appearance and historical significance during its years of service.

  2. Promote public awareness and appreciation of railroad history in the Topeka area, connecting the community with its rich transportation heritage.

  3. Provide educational insight into the social and economic impact of steam locomotives and the railroad industry on the community, past and present.

Through hands-on restoration, outreach, and interpretation, KVRHC strives to ensure that the story of 3463 and the broader history of Kansas railroading remain accessible, meaningful, and preserved for future generations.

The Kaw Valley Rail Heritage Conservancy (KVRHC) is dedicated to preserving and sharing the legacy of railroading in Kansas through the stewardship of Santa Fe locomotive 3463. Rooted in the work and passion of the volunteers who carried this project forward, our mission reflects both a commitment to preservation and a vision for public engagement and education.
